found in Plant and fungi cells in fungi made of chitin in plants functions support protect structure long chains of cellulose embedded in proteins & other carbohydrates 2 types primary develops while cell is being formed just outside cell membrane secondary develops when cell is fully formed between cell membrane and primary cell wall tough and woody once completed-cell cannot grow anymore i.e. piece of wood Middle lamella made of pectin(gooey polysaccharide) holds plant cells together
