DNA Replication

A process of DNA making a copy of itself
Happens in S phase of Interphase
Steps
	DNA Unwinds
	DNA unzips
double and triple hydrogen bonds between nucleotides are broken
		forms replication forks
New DNA complementary nucleotides are added to the exposed bases
	New strands reform helices
Enzymes Used
	Helicases
		unwind and unzip DNA
	DNA polymerase
bonds complementary nucleotides to exposed bases
	Ligase
bonds the nucleotides together to form a strand
Mutations
	changes in the DNA sequence
causes a change in the protein produced
	Repair Enzymes
check DNA to find mismatched pairs
	A-T
	C-G
	Nondisjunction is not a mutation
		happens in meiosis
	Sun Cancer
causes nitrogen bases on one side of identical nucleotides next to each together to join
causes a "kink" in the perfect double helix shape of DNA
